Fit Testing for Tight-Fitting Respirators
To ensure effective protection, tight-fitting respirators, including disposable filtering facepiece respirators, must form a proper seal to the wearer’s face. According to the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1715, fit testing is mandatory before a respirator is used on the job and should be conducted at least annually.
Fit testing is also required:
-
Annually as part of routine compliance.
-
When switching respirators (e.g., using a different size, style, model, or make).
-
After facial changes such as significant weight fluctuations, dental work, or other alterations that may affect the respirator's fit.

Regular fit testing is crucial to maintaining safety standards and ensuring reliable respiratory protection in the workplace.
